Private Forest Accord FAQ
Who does this effect?
This primarily effects timberland owners who have any streams, roads, or wildlife on their property.
What is the Private Forest Accord?
It is a compilation of new, more restrictive, Oregon Forest Laws put into effect in tandem with the current Oregon Forest Practices Act. The private forest accord was passed in February of 2022.
When does it go into effect?
The new rules go into effect on January 1, 2024. You must have your harvest completed by December 31, 2023, to be able to use the OLD rules.
Why does it matter to me?
Buffer zones, steep slope logging, and road construction rules have significantly changed. This takes a large amount of land that was previously harvestable and makes it un-harvestable in the future. If your intent was ever to harvest your timber, this may affect you.
