Some job sites have better wet weather soils than others. It’s a little wet on our thinning job right now, but the Barko still has the strength and versatility to cut for our clear cut side. #logging #barko #jpskidmore #thinning #sustainableforestry #timbermanagement #contractor #timberharvest #localexpert #localbusiness

Anyone else working in the rain today?
We got moved into another job late last week, getting us off the dirt access roads just in time for the rain.
Thanks to our shovel operator Wyatt for these photos of the team moving wood on the new unit.

Just wrapped up with this job.
The timber on this property was badly damaged by the ice storms last winter.
We had a few options but starting over made the most sense for this stand and the land owner.
The timber was cut, logged and sold to a handful of mills across the region. After logging, the brush was piled and this piece will be replanted.
Sometimes this isn’t the best option to manage your timber, and we can help with that too.

Maintenance day last week at Century Forest Management.
A good preventative maintenance schedule helps us keep our equipment running when we need it the most.
It also allows us to plan when to make repairs, like this crack in our heel rack. Once we saw it was cracked, we made one phone call to @precisionmaint and had a tech scheduled to come help us out. Thanks Brett for getting it welded up for us!
An overview shot of one of our recent jobs down by Creswell.
This site was heavily damaged by the ice storm, with some of the standing trees being split down almost to the ground.
We utilized our expertise in the industry to ship logs from this job to five different mills. Why? To maximize the return for the land owner.
The market wasn’t perfect for this stand, but they will have trees growing here again soon that won’t be dangerous to walk through and enjoy.

Another angle of Nichole in truck No. 2 getting a load from Wyatt on a job south of Eugene.
The timber on this property had been severely damaged by last winter’s ice storm. With all things considered, this client decided to harvest what was there and get seedlings in the ground to get their land back into production.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the industry, you might not know that each different deck of logs here is a different sort, and likely has a different destination than the one next to it.
Each mill requires different raw materials to produce their finished products. These are sorted by species, grade, diameter and length of the log.
Century Forest Management takes pride in being able to maximize the return on our customers timber. By merchandising the logs to fit different needs in the market, it brings a higher value to the logs.
On this job we are shipping logs to five different saw mills and one pulp mill.

Everyone seemed to like the video of our Cat/ Waratah combo, so here’s a video of our Barko with a JP Skidmore harvester head. We searched high and low for a machine that could efficiently handle the smaller diameter logs in a thinning, but still be able to fill in cutting larger stems in a clearcut setting. Our equipment is purpose built to help us maximize our efficiency so we can get the most out of our customers timber. After the unit is cut, if it’s flat enough to shovel log, all of the trees get moved into bigger bundles. These bundles are then worked to the landing by the shovel.
In this shot you can see the processor working up a small piece above the road. In this industry, teamwork makes the dream work.
Thanks to our shovel operator Wyatt for the photo!
When the landowner tells you to watch out for the local bear, they’re actually serious sometimes!
Reach out today to see how Century Forest Management can help you get your property shaped up to fit your needs. If you’re looking for fire resiliency, commercial thinning, or you’re ready to harvest your stand, no two private timberlands are the same.
You may need a combination of the three or an entirely different management plan. Century Forest Management is here to help.
This time of year, during fire season, we work the early shift. We have to start early to take advantage of low temperatures and (generally speaking) higher relative humidities.
Working these hours helps reduce the risk of an operations caused fire. We also have to stick around after work is complete for up to three hours, depending on the Industrial Fire Precaution Level, IFPL, to watch for smoke in the area.
Century Forest Management is looking to hire an experienced log truck driver.
We are based out of Monroe, Oregon and usually truck all around the Willamette Valley.
Benefits start after 90 days of employment.
Pay for this role depends on experience, but ranges from $27-$30/hr OR 29%-31%.
For more information or to apply for this job, please reach out to our truck boss Matt at (541) 337-6496 or send us a message here.

We spent the day Friday with the Oregon Small Woodlands Association. We toured Jim and Ed Merzenich’s property who were selected as the Oregon Small Woodland Association tree farmer of the year. We did a thinning project for them back in November and December and part of the tour was the work we had done for them.

Thank you to our truck boss Matt for the awesome photo!
Does it feel like the trees on your timberlands are squished together? Commercial thinning is a great option to take out some of the trees to improve the health of the remaining timber and allow it to grow with less competition.

The weather lately has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride for our shovel side.
While shovel logging flat ground has a low impact to the soil, we still don’t push the limits in winter or spring.
If we’re harvesting your property and you don’t see us working on a Tuesday, it’s probably just too wet and we have decided to let the property dry out a bit.
Thanks Ethan for the POV shot from your processor!
When we harvest a clients timber we always maximize the value of their stand. Often times the pole market can bring the best value for the right logs.
Not every log meets the requirements to be manufactured into poles, but we have the expertise to bring you the best possible return on your timber.
Thanks to our driver Matt for this photo of some 82 foot poles on his truck.
Garren running our Barko processing some trees that were thinned on a small private forest.
Knowing which stems to selectively harvest is just as important as knowing how to properly merchandise the wood that’s cut.
We do what it takes to maximize the merchantable value of your timber, and take great care of your small timberlands.
Thinning your stand of timber can improve the health of your stand and help add fire resilience to your property.
Selectively removing certain stems to release the dominant trees allows them to grow freely with less competition for sun and water.
Century Forest Management can help you manage your timber, even when it’s not time to harvest.
Century Forest Management is currently looking for Harvester operator on our commercial thinning side.
